The world economy has been through some challenging times but yet we managed to sustain steady growth over the years. We are seeing the emergence of China as an economic powerhouse. Most multinational corporations would have a China strategy in their global expansion plan. China has been touted as the global economic expansion strategy for today. Tomorrow's strategy is india. What about the day after?. We shall see a shift in the economic imbalance from the Western economics to Asia. With the escalating oil prices and the post September 11 saga, where will the petrol money flow?. As we map the global expansion trend, we can unravel a hidden gem that we can exploit, but only if we know where to find it.
Dr YK Chin is a partner of the business advisory division of KPMG Malaysia. YK joined the Leeds office of KPMG (or Peat Marwick Mitchell as it was known then) in 1979. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, he was transferred to the Kuala Lumpur office in 1983. Prior to joining the business advisory division, YK was attached with KPMG's audit and tax practices. He served as the joint managing partner of KPMG Vietnam from 1992 to 1997. YK has been involved with clients in formulating strategic plans, corporate performance management, project management, transaction support and analysis and tax planning. YK had his early education at St Michael's Institution in Ipoh before pursuing his higher education at Leeds University where he graduated with a First Class Honours in Economics/Accounting. He was awarded the Gerald Veale Prize for being the top accounting graduate and was also a merit award winner of the professional exams of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. In keeping touch with the issues affecting investors in Malaysia, YK is a member of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) and the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC).
